Recently, Kadia’s intelligent cleaning and grinding robot has achieved a significant breakthrough in wind-tower maintenance operations, having completed a pilot deployment at the Qinzhou wind-tower facility of Guangxi Hefeng Group. By leveraging domestically developed smart technologies to address longstanding operational and maintenance challenges in the industry, the robot has emerged as a core, cutting-edge solution for wind-energy companies seeking to reduce costs, boost efficiency, and enhance safety.

Wind turbine towers are exposed year-round to extreme outdoor conditions, with frequent challenges such as salt-spray corrosion in coastal areas and abrasive sand-and-dust erosion in arid regions. Under these circumstances, the drawbacks of traditional manual basket operations become particularly pronounced, creating a significant gap compared with Kadia’s intelligent cleaning and grinding robots. This comparison goes beyond operational efficiency and cost; it directly determines the safety threshold and quality standards for wind-farm O&M. Conventional manual basket work requires 8–10 workers operating in coordination, posing an extremely high risk of falls from height and subjecting personnel to harsh working conditions—intense heat, heavy dust, and severe salt-spray corrosion—all of which seriously jeopardize worker health. At the same time, manual productivity is low, and grinding quality is heavily influenced by physical stamina, mood, and lighting, leading to issues such as missed defects and uneven surface finishes. Moreover, labor costs for routine inspections account for 25%–30% of total wind-farm operating expenses, making it difficult to meet the demands of large-scale O&M. Consequently, replacing manual labor has become an essential industry need.

As a Guangxi-based company with deep roots in the industrial robotics sector, Kadia has delivered a breakthrough with its intelligent cleaning and grinding robot: leveraging magnetic-track–based permanent-magnet adhesion technology, the robot boasts an exceptional 120 kg holding force that ensures secure attachment to tower surfaces and weld seams, accommodating towers of various diameters. With an IP65 protection rating, it can operate reliably in diverse, complex, and harsh environments. The system integrates dual modules for ultra-high-pressure cleaning and precision grinding, eliminating dust pollution for greater environmental friendliness while enabling integrated cleaning, grinding, and inspection operations with uniform, controllable grinding accuracy.

In this Qinzhou pilot project, the comparative advantages of robotic versus manual operations were strikingly demonstrated: what would normally require several workers and take days to complete—tower cleaning and grinding—is now handled independently by a single robot, with operational efficiency more than five times that of traditional manual methods. The robot effectively replaces 8 to 10 workers, significantly reducing labor costs and management expenses. Moreover, safety hazards inherent in manual work—such as falls from height and exposure to dust—are completely eliminated through the robot’s robust 120-kg magnetic attachment and non-contact operation. The variability and potential for oversight in manual grinding quality are also fully addressed by the robot’s uniformly controlled grinding precision and comprehensive, all-around coverage. As a result, the robot has successfully resolved the challenge of tower corrosion under local salt-spray conditions, translating its competitive advantages into enhanced safety and cost savings for wind power operators—and earning recognition from Guangxi He Feng Group.

Leveraging 100% domestically developed core technologies, Kadia’s intelligent cleaning and grinding robot delivers high adaptability, superior safety, and exceptional cost-effectiveness, providing an advanced digital solution for wind-tower maintenance and operations. Moving forward, the company will continue to deepen its expertise in wind-energy O&M applications, driving the industry toward smarter, greener upgrades for high-altitude, high-risk tasks.
